The worst phone call of your life just went down, what do you do now?

Losing someone close to you is never a pleasant experience. It hits you right in the gut and all the air has just been sucked from your lungs. The world comes to a complete stand still. Time stops and you don’t know what to do.

This experience is something that I would never wish upon my worst enemy. For someone who is not very religious, I believe that there is only a heaven and no hell. Dealing with the death of someone close to you can make you doubt your faith. We all need faith to survive. This is just the way we have been programmed.

An hour after that phone call your world is still frozen. You are mostly a wreck. So many things left unsaid, so many things you still wanted to do, now you will never have the opportunity again. Every day on social media we see quotes about how we should treat each other while we are still alive because your tears are useless to that person after death.

In some cultures, it is believed to have a celebration as the other person has passed on to a better life, in other cultures it is believed to mourn for 7 days. Every person has their own way of dealing with a loss. Some people cry, others laugh and joke about it, others follow ancient traditions to try and sooth our souls. Since we are all so young it can be a difficult challenge.

You have never experienced pain like this and you have no idea how to live without that person yet life goes on. Losing someone is a horrible experience yet we learn how to live without them every day that goes by. Now all we have left are memories of how special that person used to be and how much they meant to us. It is normal to mourn and celebrate, this soul has crossed over to a world where all is perfect.

Some people say only the good die young but how can we as 20 year olds understand this? How could we possibly be able to deal with death at such a young age? It’s never easy and you will slowly start to realize what that person’s purpose on earth and in your life, was.

Let’s take a moment and think about all our Fallen Heroes. Today, go out and tell that other soul you love him/her, apologize, make peace, share a meal and take interest. Give them a hug and tell them how much they mean to you. Tomorrow, they might not be there anymore and then it will all be too late. Be kind to others you never know when the last goodbye will be.

This is my experience and this was a blog post dedicated to all my Heroes who has passed in the past few months and the past couple of years. May you guys rest in peace.
